| Sean Wood – Vocalist of…
The Curragh Sons (Interview by Michael Murphy) |
| Michael: Hi Sean, could you give me a description of the band? |
Sean: We’ve always been billed as an Irish band, but we do play some contemporary stuff such as Steve Earle and Ricahrd Thompson alongside the trad Irish songs and our own material. The core line-up is myself on vocals and bodhran, Phil Mayers on fiddle, mandolin, guitar and almost anything else, plus vocals, Gordon Trunkfield on guitar and vocals, Steve Massey on drums and vocals and Butty on bass or drums and vocals, we also have regular guests, such as the Mighty Wal on bass and Paul Newland on fiddle, mandolin and vocals. We need to mention also long-time roadie, Oaf aka Peter Bromhall.

| Michael: And whats your goal as a band? |
| Sean: Keep on gigging and enjoying the music. |
| Michael: Do you have any rituals before you do a gig? |
| Sean: Five pints of Guinness to lubricate the vocals. |
| Michael: So whens the next gig? |
| Sean: Fundraiser for Willow Wood Hospice, Glossop Rugby Club, Friday September 5th, £5 and the Moon the night after at 9.30pm. |
| Michael:Any new albums coming out soon? |
| Sean: We’re about to begin a new album of original material, most of it penned already but never recorded with the whole band. |
| Michael: Is there any funny stories behind any of your lyrics? |
| Sean: They are too autobiographical to let on. |
| Michael: Do you have a favourite venue to play at? |
| Sean: The Moon & Sixpence, Glossop and Sexton’s Bar in Kinvara, Co Galway. |
| Michael: Dead or Alive: Which 5 acts would you love to play on the same stage as? |
| Sean: Joni Mitchell, Ronnie Drew and Luke Kelly both deceased from the Dubliners, Van Morrison and Rook and the Ravens. |
| Michael: Whats your most memorable moment as a band?? |
| Sean: With over two thousand gigs under my belt there are many, however, you can’t beat putting a smile on a Brides face and making her wedding day. |
| Michael: Do you have any advice for any bands starting out? |
| Sean: Love it and never stop |
| Michael: And finally if you could sum up the Curragh Sons in 3 words? |
| Sean: True Musical Vagabonds |
