Matt Oliver interview

Matt Oliver – Rep Of Enjo Products

Enjo Products (Interview by Michael Murphy)

Michael: Hi Matt, So what is ENJO (pronounced en-yo)?

Matt: Hi Michael. ENJO is an Austrian company which has a unique, award winning chemical-free cleaning system that just uses cold water to clean with. A bit of a crazy sounding notion I know but ENJO has now been distributing its patented fibre technology around the world since 1990 and is now in 25 countries. ENJO has been in the UK for just over 4 years now and because it is sold directly from consultant to customer there are various hotspots around the UK where ENJO is used by many people, but the North West hasn’t been one of them until now.Using ENJO instead of traditional cleaning methods has 5 key benefits, which are:

  • Cost saving – ENJO fibres can last for many years and eliminate up to 90% of household cleaning chemicals from a home. ENJO can save up to 74% of household cleaning bills and even more in businesses.
  • Better results – ENJO’s fibres have been scientifically proven to clean 6.5 times better than traditional chemical cleaning methods.
  • Time saving – ENJO’s cleaning system can cut cleaning times in half.
  • Improved Health – getting rid of the chemicals from the home and businesses improves air quality and means chemical residues are no longer left on surfaces. This makes the home and business environments much safer and healthier – this is particularly important when you consider studies that show the link between asthma and other illnesses and common household chemicals.
  • Better Environment - no chemicals into waterways, no plastic bottles to landfill, no packaging, reduced water consumption, energy saved by using only cold water
Michael: Why bring it to Glossop?

Matt: I have friends who live in Broadbottom and so initially I showed them the products and they suggested various people and businesses locally who could also benefit from the products. This led to increased demand from Glossop and surrounding areas and so I have spent a lot of time there supplying that demand. Because the products clean only using cold water and no chemicals they need to be seen to be believed and I am often therefore referred to new customers in Glossop by existing customers – word of mouth is very powerful with products such as ours. It is good to see that many Glossop people are becoming the early adopters of the technology in the North West and want to spread the word. A recent local customer is Natalie Stenzel and I just love what she emailed to me today – this is what she said:
“ENJO is a revolution and is a big change in our daily family being. ENJO not only protects our environment, but also the health of our whole family (including our sensitive cat) and it saves us so much time. This is a big chance for us to take responsibility for our children and the next generation. We are so happy that we changed our cleaning procedure to ENJO products. We will spread the word around in Glossop!”
Michael: Are you a local man yourself?

Matt: I am not a local man myself although, as I said earlier, I do have ties to the area. I grew up in Cheshire and now live in Manchester city centre, having previously spent time living in London and then Australia for a number of years. Infact, it was in Australia where I first became aware of ENJO. It has been in Australia longer than in the UK and over 35% of households now clean with ENJO, making it a household name. If the same amount of households in Glossop alone were to clean with ENJO then this would be around 3500 so you can see that we still have a long way to go but when we reach this level we will be having a significant effect on the local environment and local residents’ health.
Michael: Is the technology expensive?

Matt: This is what makes the products so special – they have so many benefits but they will also save you money. The fibres last for a minimum of 2-3 years and replace every chemical, sponge, cloth, mop, etc that an average household would keep buying and replacing during that period. The average household spends £11 per month on cleaning materials which over 3 years mounts up to over £390 so you can imagine the considerable cost savings people are making now they no longer need to keep buying regularly.
Michael: Is it tested on animals?

Matt: Because the fibres replace the chemicals there is nothing that would need to be tested on animals. Our products are also predominantly made in Austria so there is no risk of child labour being involved either. Also, because the fibres are not liquid based, there is no danger to our health or our children’s health – no longer do we need to worry about children getting their hands on the chemical bottles which is now the most common cause of hospital admittance in children.

Michael: Have you had any feedback from Va Bene restaurant or Mettricks butchers yet?

Matt: Yes. Both David who owns Va Bene and John who owns Mettricks have both been very honest with their feedback – both admit to being initially skeptical that ENJO could clean better than traditional chemical methods using only cold water but both are now convinced and have provided the following testimonials:John Mettrick said:
“When I was approached by ENJO about their cleaning system I was, to say the least, very sceptical as were our cleaning staff. However, having seen the system in action, I decided to trial the products. We were both surprised and impressed with the results, particularly with glass, work surfaces and the stainless steel cladding and we consequently purchased the gloves and cloths.

We now do not have the annoying smearing that you can get with chemical cleaners and whatever we have used it on just looks better and better. Now we are using the system on our resin and tiled floors with good results. I would definitely recommend giving ENJO’s products a try as it is very unusual to find a product that is good for both the pocket and the environment. ENJO has made a valuable contribution to our environmental credentials as our business is built around the supply of local meat with low food miles and now low chemical usage.”

David at Va Bene said:
“Thank you for introducing Va Bene restaurant to the ENJO range of products. I am particularly pleased with the gloves supplied for cleaning in our commercial kitchen. As you will know the surfaces and walls are constantly having to be wiped down to remove grease which builds up. Being able to wipe away grease deposits effortlessly and without the risk of allergies to staff from using chemicals is a huge plus. ENJO not only helps the environment, it helps us too.”

Michael: You used to be a solicitor, wasn’t this a drastic career change?

Matt: That’s right, I spent 10 years working as a solicitor in London and Sydney but decided I would like my own business one day. I firstly set up a property business (which I still have) and then I decided to start my own ENJO business – for me the products never cease to amaze and I believe everyone should have them. My main motivation for starting an ENJO business was that I wanted to make a difference to people’s health and to the environment. I was a really bad asthmatic when I was young and there are links between asthma and household chemical cleaners and so I would like to help eliminate this unnecessary cause of the large increase is asthma in children in more recent years. I also believe we all need to do whatever we can to look after our local waterways, reduce landfill and generally protect the planet and ENJO is able to really make a difference – it has already saved over 50 million litres of chemicals entering the world’s waterways and this in increasing daily. In Australia, ENJO is a $100 million business so the opportunities to run a successful business whilst also making a difference are what made ENJO an easy choice for me. I am always on the look out for other local ENJO consultants who want to join in with this huge opportunity too – domestically, the products are sold by direct selling (in a similar way to Virgin Vie and Body Shop) where consultants sell locally via group demonstrations and one-to-ones. It’s a fantastically flexible business as one consultant might decide to do a couple of hours a month whilst others like myself are doing this as a full-time business. We currently have a great opportunity for consultants to join the team in Glossop and surrounding areas and I am always available to have a chat about this with people.
Michael: Is this something we can pick up off the shelf in any supermarket?

Matt: No, ENJO is only available via a local ENJO consultant. An important part of the ENJO philosophy is customer service – this starts with the offer of a free group or one-to-one demonstration of the products so our customers can effectively ‘try before they buy’ and continues with specific tailored advice as to which products are needed to satisfy each customers individual requirements and then takes people through the change to chemical free cleaning with advice and support all the way along.
Michael: What’s next for the products?

Matt: Extra products are added to the range every now and again to make various cleaning jobs simpler and easier, but essentially the product range will remain the same as it is able to eliminate up to 90% of the chemicals from the home (unfortunately ENJO cannot get rid of detergents for the washing machine and dishwasher) using its unique fibre technology. The products are being used by more and more people around the world and will make more and more of a difference to people and the environment. Whilst there is now a large market for microfibre cloths out there, there is nothing like ENJO out there which allows us to clean without the need for chemicals and which saves us a whole heap of money. I also hope that more and more people in Glossop and surrounding areas get to see an ENJO demonstration for themselves so that they too can enjoy the many benefits of this eco-award winning cleaning system that is making such a difference locally and across the world.

Michael: Thanks for the interview Matt!

Matt: Anytime
