FOLLOWING the disappointment of Walkden Cup defeat against Denton West, it was imperative that Glossop returned to winning ways against Stand at North Road.

On what looked a superb batting surface, it was no surprise that Stand opted to make first use of it after winning the toss.

However, Glossop made life difficult from the outset with Dyson dismissing Curphew.

Sri Lankan professional Weththasinghe hit early boundaries as Taylor, O’Beirne and Catterall all departed the scene, reducing the visitors to 28-4.

That became 78-7 before Weththasinghe was out for 51 as Stand were dismissed for 103.

Bates was out early in Glossop’s reply before Toft (32) and Perera (36) added 57.

Skipper Wilson added a quickfire 20 to see Glossop to victory with almost 50 overs remaining.

  • SUNDAY saw Glossop visit New Longton in the last 16 of the Lancashire Knockout. They had reduced the hosts to 47-4 after 20 overs, following which a heavy thunderstorm rendered the game a total washout. It will be replayed on Sunday with both teams starting from scratch.
