In 1950s America two strangers meet on a train; Guy Haines, a staid architect, and Charles Bruno, a flamboyant, charming but unstable playboy. Being strangers they ‘...can say anything they like...’. As they discuss the dilemmas of their lives Bruno suggests a solution  which draws them into a nightmare from which neither can wake.
